"No Winston, you can't crash that wedding."

After a late night ( it was 2 o’clock before we made it back to the camp site), we decided to sleep in.  We all slept wonderfully. With it being our last full day, we wanted to spend most of it at the beach. We checked out the North beach, and it was beautiful, with perfect waves for boogie boarding and wave jumping.

We grabbed burgers and a shakes before making our way back to camp to nap and read for a piece.

Because we couldn’t get enough of the beach, we headed back for one final dose of sand filled fun. I gathered a few seashells, and we all flew the kite a bit. We all bide farewell to the ocean, and headed back to camp to clean up.

We ate outside a at local seafood place, enjoying the fresh fish and shrimp while we could. After dinner we heard the fateful siren song of Dairy Queen calling out to us. Several milkshakes later, and we were back at campfire one last campfire. We roasted s’mores and I undertook a mandatory fire leap or two. We turned in with the cicadas still chirping in the woods around us.

We rose early Sunday morning, broke camp, and waved goodbye to Hunting Island.

Regrettably, one could say that this post is late.  Monumentally and fantastically late. But like a wizard, we are never late. Nor are we early, we arrive precisely when we mean to.  We have all been caught back up into the daily grind, but in its own way this has helped make the adventures we have had all the sweeter. We don’t know where we’re headed next, but you can bet we’ll be back.

"I think I’m gonna call him Apollo."

Yet another fantastic day has speed by, and we are updating the blog a bit early tonight, as we wait for the drive-in movie at 10:15.

This morning we rose early, and after a quick breakfast set off in search of bicycle rentals. We didn’t have to search for long, as there is a beach store/bike rental less than a mile from the Hunting Island camp. Once there, we rented bikes from the super friendly proprietor, Apollo ( at least that's what Shelby says should be his name). We saddled up onto our newly acquired bicycles and head toward the  Hunting Island light house. After a beautiful ride, we climbed to the top of the 132 foot tall lighthouse. After quite a few flights spiral stairs , we were rewarded with a magnificent view of the ocean.  After a bit more riding, we returned the bikes and decided it was high time to hit the beach. We boogied boarded, flew our kite and read/napped until our hearts where content.

Now we get to my favorite part of the day, diner time. Shelby had researched all the local restaurants, and we quickly decided on the Johnson Creek Tavern. Johnson Creek has a longtime tradition of decorating their walls with federal tender. After a tasty meal of seafood and hushpuppys, they brought us a box of markers and a stapler, so we really couldn’t refuse. We marked up our currency, and stapled it to the wall.

At this point we’re sitting around our campfire, enjoying that old South Carolinian pastime, slapping mosquitoes. In a little while, we’ll we enjoying Men In Black III at there local drive-in.

The plan for tomorrow is…. Well we don’t have a plan. Shelby says she doesn’t like to plan her days out, because then the word premeditated get throw around in the courtroom. I’m scared.

“It should be ‘mellow’ not ‘mallow’. They’re mellow little shmellows

Life is good. As we sit around a dying campfire licking marshmallow of our fingers, we realize this.  We have had a incredible day, full of fun and excitement.

We left the cool mountains of Western North Carolina this morning, and with few minor stops for groceries and such we arrived at Hunting Island State Park at 3:30. After a quick camp set up (thanks Brian and Lori for the tent!) we took of for the beach. The weather was surprisingly cool and breezy. All three of us enjoyed a frolic in the ocean, jumping the waves and general having a good old time.  Needless to say, we where tuckered out after playing in the water. Obviously, it was hammock time. We slapped three hammocks up right on the beach, and kicked back for some relaxation and reading. It was at that moment that I realized how hopelessly dorky I am. Included in my beach library are: “Orthodoxy”, “The Great Divorce”  “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” and…”The Hobbit”. Shelby enjoyed Donald Millers “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” and “Just my Type”, a book about typography (shhhh, she's a graphic design nerd). Winston’s beach books include “The Hobbit” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”.

Us acting normal.

Us being us.

We found this neat fresh produce place on our way in.

There is lots of this awesome moss hanging from the trees.

This trip sponsored in part by ENO.

Cool shot of the palm leaves.

Nom, nom, nom.

So. Much. Gear.

All three of us at the beach.

Setting up hammocks.

Pretty view of the beach.

The two fiery redheads.

After a lovely reading session, we headed back to camp and cleaned up. We then got a blazing, but short-lived fire going. Fortunately, we had just enough wood to roast marshmallows for s’mores.

The plan for tomorrow is loose, but may include biking, a lighthouse, beach time and  The Avengers at a awesome drive-in movie theater we saw driving down.
More blog posts to come!

We're back.

Welcome!

Well, it feels good be be back. After our epic adventure last year (you can read more about that one here http://themaidenvoyageoftheblantontrio.blogspot.com/), we found that we couldn't get enough adventure. This time we've shifted gears a bit, well quite a bit actually. We're hitting up the east coast this time around, as opposed to Yellowstone, Yosemite and San Francisco.

Enter Hunting Island State Park. While searching for beachy places within driving distance,we found this gem of a State Park. Just take a gander at these pictures:

 Cool walkways

We can't wait to slap some hammocks up in those trees

We're peeling out early tomorrow morning, and hopefully by tomorrow afternoon we will be relaxing on a sunny isle, with the salt breeze in our faces and the sand betwixt our toes. More posts, and pictures, to come!

Adieu,
Seth
