Yet another fantastic day has speed by, and we are updating
the blog a bit early tonight, as we wait for the drive-in movie at 10:15.
This morning we rose early, and after a quick breakfast set
off in search of bicycle rentals. We didn’t have to search for long, as there
is a beach store/bike rental less than a mile from the Hunting Island
camp. Once there, we rented bikes from the super friendly proprietor, Apollo
( at least that's what Shelby says should be his name). We saddled up onto our
newly acquired bicycles and head toward the
Hunting Island light house. After a beautiful ride, we climbed to the
top of the 132 foot tall lighthouse. After quite a few flights spiral stairs ,
we were rewarded with a magnificent view of the ocean. After a bit more riding, we returned the
bikes and decided it was high time to hit the beach. We boogied boarded, flew
our kite and read/napped until our hearts where content.
Now we get to my favorite part of the day, diner time. Shelby
had researched all the local restaurants, and we quickly decided on the Johnson
Creek Tavern. Johnson Creek has a longtime tradition of decorating their walls
with federal tender. After a tasty meal of seafood and hushpuppys, they brought
us a box of markers and a stapler, so we really couldn’t refuse. We marked up
our currency, and stapled it to the wall.
At this point we’re sitting around our campfire, enjoying
that old South Carolinian pastime, slapping mosquitoes. In a little while, we’ll
we enjoying Men In Black III at there local drive-in.
The plan for tomorrow is…. Well we don’t have a plan. Shelby
says she doesn’t like to plan her days out, because then the word premeditated get
throw around in the courtroom. I’m scared.
